Prior to moving, he was the senior partner and senior medical director
at The Oncology Institute who helped develop
the value-based oncology model that led to the company going public
in 2021 on Nasdaq.

Dr. Shum has over 20 years of experience in the field of oncology, and he has a deep understanding of the latest cancer treatments and clinical trials. He has conducted over 350 Clinical trials as a principal investigator and sub-investigator and has helped to obtain several FDA drug approvals. He is a compassionate and dedicated physician who is committed to providing his patients with the best possible care.
Dr. Shum received his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. He completed his Fifth Pathway Program from New York Medical College. He completed his residency in internal medicine at UMDNJ- RWJMS at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. He then completed his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. Dr. Shum is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American College of Physicians. He was an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA and a clinical instructor at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA.
Dr. Shum is a highly respected oncologist who has been recognized for his clinical excellence and his commitment to patient care. He has received numerous awards, including the Arthur P. Gold Foundation Excellence in Humanism and Teaching Award, the Golden Apple Teaching Award, and the Teaching Resident of the Year Award. He has 27 publications in leading medical journals, including the Proceedings American Journal of Clinical Oncology, Blood, Advance Experimental Medical Biology, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Annals of Oncology, Hematology Transfusion and Cell Therapy, British Journal of Haematology, Cancer Research, American Journal of Medicine, Cerebrovascular Disease and Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. He received the Rising Star award and Super Doctors award from the Los Angeles Magazine annually since 2013. He was selected Top Doctor by California Magazine in 2021.
